2018  Excursion: Classic Auto Mall

 photo
On Wednesday June 20th many Chesapeake Region members made an excursion to the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pensylvania.

Formerly a traditional retail mall, the site now has been repurposed into a world-class automobile consignment facility, with space for up to 1000 collectable and special-interest vehicles.

Upon arrival, we signed in at the reception desk before beginning our tour of this amazing place.

Though most vehicles resided in the previous "store" locations, many were displayed in the mall's X-shaped corridors.

To the right, upon entry, were many consignment vehicles, including this 1957 Ford Sunliner convertible.

 photo
To the left, some "barn find" trucks.

 photo
To facilitate touring the large facility, a tram ride was offered to the visitors.

One newly-arrived consignment vehicle was the Ford Thunderbird of Club Director Gary Wilmer.

 photo
Nearby, but surely at a premium price, was this rare Kaiser-Darrin.

A mid-50s Buick Roadmaster convertible draws the attention of a visitor.

 photo
A pristene 1980s Oldsmobile Toronado was prominately displayed in the mall corridor.

Many of us climbed aboard the tram for the grand tour.

Our guide stopped periodically to discuss the many vehicles on display.

 photo
The X-shaped mall property is an expansive facility, with plenty of room for holding indoor and outdoor automobile events - a great resource for area car clubs.

 photo
There is even an adjacent, newly renovated, 188 room Holiday Inn, with a walk-through entrance attached to the facility.

 photo
Prior mall stores have been repurposed to feature various categories of American vehicle history.

 photo
More for display impact than for potential sale, these early vehicles present quite a contrast, when displayed in a modern shopping mall.

The early Americal industrial age is well represented, with many "barn find" work vehicles.

This Classic Auto Mall is a "must-see" for anyone interested in collector cars - and a valuable asset for anyone interested in selling their collector vehicles.
What an imaginative reuse of an obsolete shopping mall.
