2021 Garage Tour - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
On Saturday April 24, 2021 Chesapeake Region members assembled at the home of our club President, Paula Ruby, for a car caravan to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the location of our scheduled year 2021 Garage Tour.
The caravan would be led by Paula and husband Gary in their 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Participation in the Garage Tour was by reservation only, and by departure time many participant's antique and modern cars lined the Ruby's long driveway.
After a short drive to Gettysburg, and upon arrival at our destination, Garage Tour participants assembled for the traditional group photograph.
Standing nearby were our two gracious hosts.
In addition to touring the GARAGE, of antique cars, we were also treated to a tour of our host's fantastic BASEMENT model train display. First... "TO THE TRAINS"
The enormous HO-gauge train layout spread out over the entire basement!
Larger-scale Lionel and American Flyer "toy" trains of the 1910s-1950s were designed to be actively "played with" by young children. The HO-guage trains, marketed later in the 1950s, were intended for older children and adult hobbyists.
In HO-guage, strict attention to accurate "scale" is paramount.
HO guage layouts contain elaborate scale-sized features you would normally see in the real world around you.
This street scene shows a group of taxicabs lined up at the train station awaiting the scheduled arrival of passengers.
An impressive church and nearby pedestrians.
As canoeists paddle the nearby lake, a long freight train passes in the background.
Nearby, a railroad bridge crosses the glassy lake.
A trainload of 1958 Fords on their way from factory to local Ford dealers.
A typical highway billboard of the 1950s era.
A tractor-trailer truck passes an "American" (formerly "Amoco") gas station.
Temporarily absorbed into the miniature world, the sudden appearance of "giants" in the background suddenly jars you back to reality. Time now to visit the car collection.
The initial impression, upon entering the car collection display area, is not of being in a "garage" but, with those wood floors, more of like being in a "museum."
The walls are lined with displays of varied automobilia...
... among the display of many of the owner's favorite cars, such as this Edsel...
... and Fords from the earliest...
... through the early fifties...
... and into the sixties.
Many scale model cars are parked along the wall shelves.
An in-booth juke box to play your favorite music - as you enjoy your burgers and fries.
Or should it be an Oscar Meyer weiner? A model of the iconic Weinermoble.
A nice example of the Ford Model T, a major star in putting America on wheels.
Throughout the tour, our host discussed his collection with our visitors.
A large assembled Coca Cola jigsaw puzzle was among the many wall decorations.
Among cars in an adjacent garage area was this yellow, rumble-seat Cadillac...
... and this Dodge in the final stages of restoration.
The Dodge has one of the most unusual and iconic "fins" of the era.
Automobilia "Bling" in glorious neon.
At the completion of the tour we all enjoyed a delicious lunch at Dunlap's Restaurant in Gettysburg - the ending to a delightful day.
Gary welcomes everyone to our scheduled lunchtime at Dunlap's, and appears to be imagining all those delicacies inside that await his selection.
